Your Pet's Environment Let’s Make it Eco-Friendly.

Like us, dogs, cats, and other pets can get bored. I find myself wandering around feeling bored, looking for something to do, and will buy a new dog training course; I am a total sucker for classes! I could find myself reading a lovely juicy love novel, also. Keeping our minds and bodies active is essential for our health; science shows this is true for pets, too.

You can add some stimulation into your pet's world that doesn't have to be expensive or time-consuming. Check out these easy and green pet-parent projects you can try this spring.

Make a pet bed or pillow out of your old clothes.

Recycling old clothes is a great way to give them a second life. For example, turn an old sweater or something with thicker material into a comfy pet bed or pillow. Here's an easy tutorial to follow. Pet Bed Your pet will happily cozy up on a bed that smells like you!

Tie up your clothes for tug toys!

This is great for those of you who do not sew. Take your old jeans and make chew toys for your dog like in this tutorial I love to do this with old T-shirts for smaller dogs. You can tie them in knots or use different color T-shirts and braid them together. You have to do this one; your dog will love it. Tug is a great game to play with your dog. Make sure to tug left and right vs. up and down. Let your dog win a lot!!

Play the spin-out treat game.

Dogs and cats will probably jump for joy on this one. In the Spin-Out Treat Game, your pet must spin a bottle so treats can fall out. This is a favorite. I wash the bottle and let it dry so the food doesn't stick to the sides. If need be, you can cut a hole to make it easier to start. Just make sure never to leave your pet alone with plastic bottles to avoid any overzealous chewers from trying to get all the treats out.

Make toilet paper or paper towel treat rolls.

You can quickly turn a toilet paper roll into a little treat game. This would be good for any animal in your home. Make sure to supervise your pet during this activity, especially if your pet likes to chew and eat cardboard. If they love to rip things up, don't worry about the mess, it's just cardboard; let them have a fun time and clean it up when they are done. You can put the toilet paper roll in a hand towel or box to make it harder.

I am trying to be more eco-friendly in all areas of my life. My youngest son is an environmental scientist who taught me to be more aware. So when I can, I love to do my part and help. Making some fun, easy DIY toys is fun and easy, and anyone can participate. Which of these little projects are you going to try? Let me know in the comments below. If you have a favorite eco-friendly idea, share below. I would love to hear about it, and many readers would also.
