AKC FIT DOG LEVEL ONE COURSE PURPOSE The AKC FIT DOG Level One course is designed to provide AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluators with a curriculum and foundation to conduct fun fitness classes for dog owners. This course aims to inspire dog owners to engage in fitness-related activities with their dogs while minimizing the risk of injury or harm due to inexperienced instruction. To participate in this class, it is recommended that you have completed at least a puppy class or an equivalent program. Your dogs should have a good understanding of the training game and be able to focus on tasks during class. Owners should also have a good understanding of lure-reward-based training methods, although capturing and shaping concepts may also be used in class. Please note that this course is not designed to teach you how to develop fitness programs for dogs or how to work with dogs in need of rehabilitation. It is only for healthy dogs with no significant prior injuries or ongoing conditions. When in doubt ask your Veterinarian.
