Karen's journey into dog training began with a profound love for animals, cultivated throughout her entire life as a dedicated dog owner.

In the summer of 2023, Karen moved significantly to Southport, NC, bringing her expertise and commitment to canine well-being to a new community. With this move, she rebranded her business as Southport Pups, a name that reflects her dedication to fostering positive relationships between dogs and their owners.

Karen's approach to dog training is holistic, focusing on building essential life skills for pets and fostering harmonious relationships between dogs and their owners. Whether through online sessions or in-person training, Karen guides pet owners through the intricacies of teaching fundamental commands such as stay, sit, come, and sit-stay, adapting to various boundaries and environments. She specializes in helping new puppy owners ease their furry companions into their new home life, emphasizing the importance of collaborative care and informed choices in enhancing the well-being of pets.

Her impressive qualifications speak volumes about her commitment to excellence. Certified by Absolute Dogs in their PRO DOG Training, Geek, and Genius classes, Karen has completed over 50 courses with Absolute Dogs, showcasing her dedication to staying at the forefront of dog training science. She is an active member of the PRO DOG Club, PPG, and the Shock-Free Coalition.

Additionally, Karen holds a Level 1 judge and instructor certification for Scent Four Six (S46) by the World Scent Dog Association (WSDA). Continuously expanding her knowledge, she is enrolled in courses such as The Canine School of Science, The Behavior Bible, 30 Days of Canine Science, and Puppy Lab.

Karen's affiliation with the AKC further solidifies her expertise. As an AKC FIT DOG instructor, she holds Bronze, Silver, and Gold Evaulators certifications and Titles with her dog Sasha, showcasing her commitment to promoting canine fitness and well-being. Her involvement with AKC includes titles such as Evaluator, AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program Evaluator, AKC CGC Evaluator, AKC Community Canine, AKC Urban CGC, and AKC Fetch Judge.

Dedicated to continuous improvement, Karen regularly attends webinars, summits, and Train-The-Trainer retreats to stay abreast of the latest advancements in dog training science. Her commitment to providing the best care and expertise is reflected in the numerous titles and achievements she has earned with her dog Sasha, including AKC/DMWYD Ticks, DMWYD Animal Actor, AKC Agility, AKC Fit Dog Bronze, Silver and Gold AKC Scent titles.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Karen shares her life with her husband, Michael, and the vivacious, long-haired Dachshund Sasha—fondly known as Sasha Fierce.
